Brian McGowan, executive pastor at Faithbridge Church, saw the new challenges that the church staff was facing as the church grew. With all of the new hires, McGowan wanted to get a pulse on the mood of the staff. He turned to the BCWI Employee Engagement survey. The initial results were both encouraging and challenging and Brian used them as a baseline for their follow-up survey two years later.
Their most recent survey results showed exceptional growth, from 4.34 (on a 5.0 scale) to 4.45, some of the highest scores we've ever seen from a church. Both years they qualified as a Certified Best Christian Workplace.
So what is it that has made the staff culture at Faithbridge so healthy despite the significant staffing increase?

When explaining why they wrote Being the Boss: The 3 Imperatives for Becoming a Great Leader, authors Linda A. Hill and Kent Lineback said, "This book is intended for managers who want to make a difference--those who want to be great at working with and leading others" (p.xi). Although this book is not from a specifically Christian perspective, this desire to have your work be meaningful, to not only accomplish great things, but bless those you work with along the way, is what God originally created us for.

2012 marks our 10th year of serving Christian organizations and we are thankful that God has priviledged us with witnessing and aiding in the growth of so many leaders. It is our prayer that this year God will be at work in equipping you to mold your workplace into a culture where your staff are fully engaged as they live out what they were created to be.
Sincerely,
Al Lopus and Carrie Cavanaugh
